Shortcut arrows
Get rid of those annoying little arrows on Windows desktop shortcuts.
Assumed knowledge
In order to use this tip, I assume that you are familiar with creating shortcuts in some flavour of Windows from 95 onwards. I also assume that you know how to edit the registry and are aware of this dangers that this entails should you make a mistake.
Make sure that you backup the registry before trying out this tip. If you don't know how to do this then you shouldn't try to use this tip until you do.
Howto
- Open the
regedit
program - Expand the tree called
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT
- Scroll down to the folder called
Lnkfile
and select it - Delete the key called
IS_Shortcut
under theLnkfile
folder - Reboot your computer for changes to take effect
If this method doesn't work, you might want to have a look at Tweak UI, which is a really useful application for Windows that can perform a lot of small user interface changes for you.
